Welcome 2010!

Happy New Year!  My first post of 2010!  It sure was rough going back to work after 11 days off!  I'm looking forward to the four day weekend coming up soon.  During my Christmas vacation I started a denim rag quilt.

I cut the squares 6 1/4 inches.  The denim is actually from my old jeans and the quilt is for my grandson.  I have a problem and I am hoping someone can advise me.  How do you sew the seams?  Should they be sewn open?  Below is a close up seam:

Very ugly seam intersections!!  I know that once you wash the quilt, the seams will and are supposed to fray.  I'm wondering if after that happens the seam will look better.  It looks terrible.  All advice appreciated!

I've been getting a little stitching time in the evenings.  Here's a Red House Sampler progress pic:

I'll be so glad when this house is done!!!  I keep telling myself "push, push"!
Thanks for the wonderful comments and birthday wishes!  Happy Stitching, Quilting, Scrapping...or whatever you are working on next!

Hi Carol,
just discovered your blog!
Sorry, I don't have any advise about your seams as I'm new to quilting myself, but I think once you wash it, they'll be fine.
Your Red House is coming along nicely, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this, it's such a lovely sampler!

I can't help with your seam question either but I'm sure it will all work out in the fraying. It should hide any seams you're worried about. Your grandson will treasure this quilt!

Seams are fine, once you wash and dry it, it will fray wonderfully.

Sorry, I'm no help with the seams! It looks good, though--your grandson will love it!

Great progress on the house! :)
